Prelude

Welcome and Invocation

Confession and Absolution

P Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.
P Our help is in the name of the Lord,
C who made heaven and earth.
P I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord,
C and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Kneel/Stand Silence is observed for self-examination-

P O God of compassion,
C in Jesus Christ You reveal the light of Your glory,
but we turn away
distracted by our own plans,
compelled by unhelpful habits.
We listen to Christ far too little
and act in accordance with our sinful flesh and the
unbelieving world.
Forgive our trespasses and sins.
Grant us wisdom to forsake our aimless enthusiasms
and live, instead, in Your light.

P In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ He gives the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
C Amen.

Readings and Prayer of the Day: Mark 9:2–9; Acts 2:38-42

Holy Gospel Reading: Mark 9:2–9

P The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the ninth chapter.
C Glory to You, O Lord.

2After six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them. 4And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. 5And Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” 8And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only.
9And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

P This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C Praise to You, O Christ.

P O God, in the glorious transfiguration of Your beloved Son
C You confirmed the awesomeness of the faith.
P As Your disciples’ eyes beheld Jesus:
C “And He was transfigured before them, and His clothes became radiant, intensely white -“
P so we have witnessed Your glory, O Glorious God.
C Jesus is the Light and is the Life.
P He has become our Light and our Life.
C Help us to listen to Him.
P Help us to do the work of forming new habits
C that will keep us connecting with Him, instead of with the myriad things which cannot bring us Life.
P Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. He lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now
C and forever. Amen.

New Testament Reading Acts 2:38-42
29Immediately [Jesus] left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30Now Simon’s mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. 31And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.
32That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons. 33And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit
the demons to speak, because they knew him.
35And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. 36And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, 37and they found him and said to him, “Everyone is looking for you.” 38And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.” 39And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.

P This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C Praise to You, O Christ.

Hymn: I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light

1 I want to walk as a child of the light.
I want to follow Jesus.
God set the stars to give light to the world.
The star of my life is Jesus. Refrain

[Refrain] In Him there is no darkness at all.
The night and the day are both alike.
The Lamb is the light of the city of God.
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

2 I want to see the brightness of God.
I want to look at Jesus.
Clear Sun of Righteousness, shine on my path,
And show me the way to the Father. Refrain

3 I’m looking for the coming of Christ.
I want to be with Jesus.
When we have run with patience the race,
We shall know the joy of Jesus. Refrain

Sermon: Keystone Habits (Introduction)

Apostles’ Creed

C I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life T everlasting. Amen.
