Senior Pastor Spotlight
Revitalization-to give new life
or vigor to…
There
are many things that we do in our daily lives that can be categorized as
“mundane.” We get up in the morning,
have breakfast, brush our teeth, go to work, drive in traffic, mow the lawn, do the
laundry, attend worship services, and the like. These activities are “mundane” because
they are repetitive, constant, and a regular part of our daily or weekly
routine. Unfortunately, for many
Christians the mission of the Church has slipped into the bracket of the “mundane.” Churches across our land have lost a
sense of “urgency,” “importance,” and “necessity” when it comes to their role and involvement in the mission of
the Church. Click here for the rest of

ABLAZE
IN NEW ORLEANS HEAT By Vicar Justin K. Vetrano
August 12-19, 2007 was the hottest week that locals in New Orleans could remember, EVER! At least that is what
they told us as soon as we arrived! With temps well
over 95 degrees and humidity over 70%, the heat index was over 115 degrees.
This was the perfect week to work outside gutting houses, wear blue hazmat
suits, three layers of gloves, respirator masks and a smile. Click here for the rest of the article.

CONGREGATIONAL DINNER DANCE SET FOR OCTOBER
25TH AT FLOWERFIELD- Preparations
are well underway for the major social event of the year, which will
celebrate all of the ministries of Saint James Lutheran Church and honor
two long-time members of the congregation, Erhardt Olsen and the late Marion Hohmann. The Dinner Dance is a great opportunity
for all who support the missions of Saint James Lutheran Church to
come together
for an evening of food and fellowship.
Because the Church must meet a 200-guest minimum guarantee, the
early purchase of tickets will be appreciated! Please contact John McFadyen (862-0888 or NSTI@optonline.net), Lois Rudin (689-9843 or larudin5@optonline.net) or the
Church Office for tickets or information.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! – A tremendous amount of planning and support is
required to
ensure the success of the congregational Dinner Dance, and additional
volunteers are needed to
serve on the planning committee. If you have a couple of hours a week to
give in support of the missions of Saint James Lutheran Church, serving on
the Dinner Dance committee is a good opportunity to
play an important role. Please contact John McFadyen, Lois Rudin, or Peter Scully (751-3203 or pscully@suffolk.lib.ny.us) for information.Go to
www.stjlc.com/dinner_dance.html for forms.
Go
to the website!
As part of an effort
to reduce paper waste and lower office expenses the office staff is
beginning a campaign called “Go to the website.” We will be
significantly reducing the amount hard mail sent home. All announcements
and information will be posted on the website. With the decrease in expense
and personnel to process mailings an extensive effort will be made to keep
all information on the website up-to-date. The staff is also working to
redesign our six-year-old website to better serve the church. Our goal is
to have it completed by September. To receive updates and information
please send your email address to church@stjlc.com, or you can always just…
“Go to the website.”
God’s Blessings,
The Staff of Saint
James Lutheran Church.
